Hyperion Yak 55sp 50e Limited Edition

H-King and Michael Wargo have teamed up to bring you and outstanding 3D platform. This model is constructed of ultra-durable EPP foam, making it virtually 'unbreakable'.The following is what Michael Wargo says about the plane.“The Wargo Signature Yak 55 is the realization of my goal to have the perfect 3D and aerobatic training aircraft. I have dedicated a lot of my flying career to teaching 3D aerobatics and helping pilots learn how to become better pilots.

I have also dedicated myself to trying to develop the ideal transition and training 3D plane. Finally, we offer you the Wargo Yak 55. It is a perfect combination of value, performance and durability with no compromises in aerobatic precision and the ability to perform every 3D aerobatic maneuver with authority. I wanted an economical and durable practice aircraft that can take a pilot from sport flying to confidently flying 3D aerobatics. The result is a phenomenal plane that will hover, harrier and tumble incredibly well. Any accomplished 3D pilot will love this plane because it will satisfy the most discriminating pilot.

It will perform maneuvers ultralight foamies cannot because it has enough mass to carry momentum and perform more high-energy and tumbling type of maneuvers. The Yak 55 is also a perfect next step toward getting confident with larger balsa planes. It is designed to perform like a balsa plane with the durability of a foamy. Best of all most mishaps can be repaired in seconds with a bit of glue, and you are ready to fly again. The Wargo Yak 55 a blast to fly, and because it takes the fear of hitting the ground, it lets you try aerobatics you cannot with your high-end balsa models. I hope you enjoy flying your new plane as much as I enjoy it.”Features:. Fully capable 3D model. Lightweight EEP foam. Carbon fiber reinforced.

Yak-55Oct 16, 2019The parts suppled did not fit each other: the width of the rods to the servos were too big for the holes in the servos.

As my grandson and I were putting the aeroplane together, upsetting that I had to say 'we seem to have put the right rods in the right places - we need to amend what has been given us (drill out the holes)'. We'd tried filing down the rods; not good enough. Confused the rods we'd cut for the ailerons with needed for elevator/rudder (which were longer) so had to find replacement rods for the elevator. Building took longer than expected. Flying was disappointing - using an E-Flite 15 Power 950kv engine the Yak-55 staggered around.

Had hoped for performance similar to similar-sized Katana. Maybe the engine I used is too big. Using the standard set up with the Turnigy motor and 1300 battery.

Great 3D trainer relaxing the fly.

I fly this plane 70% of the time because I improve my flying skills with this plane. Recommend it. Good valueAug 31, 2018Over all a good value when compared to similar airplanes like the Veloxity. There were a few problems, but nothing difficult to fix.

I used an SK3 3536 1050, and the protruding shaft in the back made the battery cutout too short for my 3 cell 1600 batteries. I covered the cut out on both sides with 1/16' plywood so the battery is surface mounted-easy fix. I added an 1/8' ply motor mount to the face of the installed motor mount to better fit the motor. The installed mount was crooked with left thrust so the motor needed shims to get it straight. The hole for the wing rod had to be adjusted and the wing root sanded to get the wings straight. It wouldn't have been possible to use the plug in wings, but I was going to glue them on anyway.

I haven't flown it yet, but I'm sure it will fly very well. If you aren't a modeler maybe you would pay twice as much for another airplane, but I see no reason to do so. I ordered a plane not a banana!Aug 08, 2018Kit arrived with a badly bent and twisted fuselage and had to remove all the carbon stiffening rods from the fuze (very messy job) and re-glue them while keeping everything flat on a glass table to get it something like straight. The main undercarriage mount is very poor and weak so had to design and 3D print a replacement mount that extended to the front of the fuze and back past the original design location by some 10mm. This added some of the needed nose weight and was able to hold the extra lead to get it to balance.Good fun to fly but shouldn't need all the time and effort to get it to that stage.Good design poorly implemented! Good value for the priceMay 29, 2018Using all the components recommended by the HK sales person, the plane needed 1.5 ounces of nose wieght. I only found this out after two crashes caused by extreme tail heavy balance.

The plane was totally uncontrollable because of that and the recommended control throws, and I can fly. Yes, I followed the info provided for CG. The landing gear design is sorry. It was the first thing to fail.

It's obvious to me now that this 3D 'trainer' was designed by someone who can easily control a plane that is waaaay out of balance and someone who is already an expert at 3D, not a novice flyer. If you plan to learn 3D just be sure to balance using the forward GC point and get 3' foam wheels. Also, reduce all the throws using a rate switch but at least 70% for 'low'. Having said all of that, I don't think you can get more plane for the money.
